What is SAW Flux / Slag Crushing?

In the Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) process the weld takes place under a blanket of granular “flux”, whatever flux comes in contact with the arc (or heat) of the weld becomes a homogeneous glass like structure and is commonly referred to as “Slag”. This “Flux Slag” can now be crushed into a reusable SAW consumable.

Modern day flux/slag crushing is vastly different from the service and product offered in the past. Custom “closed-loop” crushing is unique to the Allied “family” and is as different to other methods of reusing flux/slag as rotary dial telephones are to modern day smartphones. The benefits and custom options available, have made crushed flux as a viable option for virtually every user.
